Custom Family Portrait

Why 3-5 high quality pictures?

It is paramount that I receive the very best picture to work from. Without going too in depth, some pictures simply don’t work in this art from. For example if it’s too dark, too blurry etc. I like to think if I’ve got 3-5 at least one will be good to use as a reference photo. Please if you have more, send them across!

The process 

Once the order is placed, I select a natural edge basswood log slice the perfect size for the portrait. Some are more square, some are more rectangular than others. They all range between an a4 and a3 piece of paper in size. 

Once the log slice is selected I begin to sketch the images main features faintly, just to guide me into the next part. 

The next part is known as Pyrography or wood burning depending on your geographic location. Basically explained, I use a fire writing pen (much the same as a soldering iron) to hand engrave the wood. This takes a considerable amount of time, as you have to work through different heats and tips to achieve the perfect end result.

Once finished, I give the slice a generous coat of natural Tung oil, this oil protects and enhances the burns best features. 

I then fit the back of the log slice with a D ring so it can be hung easily on any wall fixing.

Additional information 

These portraits do take time to complete, however I aim to get them sent out within a week. Sometimes different variables can alter how quickly I get it sent out to you. Such as the complexity of the piece or the time of year (Christmas mainly)
